Flying Cars At Last; Transformation Into Briefcase Left Out
March 24, 2009
History was made on March 18, 2009, when the world’s first flying car had a successful test flight in Plattsburgh International Airport, New York. The Terrafugia Transition, by Terrafugia Inc., runs on high-octane unleaded gasoline, getting a paltry 27 miles to the gallon, but hey, c’mon: FLYING CAR.
There are no results for flying car.
Like the best Transformers, the Terrafugia (a Latin word meaning “escape from Earth”) can go from plane form to car form in less than 30 seconds, and will then fit into a standard car garage by folding its wings up to hug its sides. You can see some great photos of the vehicle in action here.
The Terrafugia can hit 115 miles per hour in the sky, but only reaches commuter speeds on the ground, so pretty much the cachet for owning one is just to be able to say “Dude, check out my FLYING FRIGGIN’ CAR!”
