The Dangers of Bullbars for Pedestrians

Date October 30, 2008

A vehicle fitted with a bullbar will injure pedestrians much more severely than a vehicle not fitted with a bullbar. This is a fact that should come as no surprise. An interesting piece of research done came to the conclusion that a vehicle fitted with a bullbar will in all likelihood cause the death of pedestrians at half the speed of a vehicle not fitted with a bullbar. Under normal circumstances, a pedestrian can survive an accident with a vehicle traveling at around 60km/h. Compare that with the fact that if a vehicle is fitted with a bullbar, the speed at which the pedestrian will survive drops to around 30km/h. Survival of pedestrians is thus reduced by an astounding 50 per cent if hit by a vehicle fitted with a bullbar.
